Birth Stories
25 Apr

Birth Visualization is a very important aspect of preparing yourself for a normal birth. There is strong anecdotal evidence to support that a strong image of a safe and healthy labor, normal baby and placental delivery, and good post partum recovery works wonders. In fact, many of our own mothers at our Healthy Mother Natural Birthing Center, The Sanctum have confirmed this to be true.

One of our mothers visualized a slow and steady labor and an easy delivery, which in fact came to be true. Another of our mothers regularly used to talk to her baby in her womb about “being a good baby” and taking to breastfeeding without problems. We were fascinated to see her baby immediately latch and to nurse when we put mother and baby in skin to skin contact.

Is there a scientific proof on outcomes of birth visualization? Different people may disagree, but through the ages we have been told about the benefits of communicating with our baby in the womb. Doesn’t the Mahabharata have the example of Abhimanyu? Midwives through the years have advised mothers to visualize the baby’s head descending down and stretching the cervix when they do their exercises. We at Healthy Mother advise our mothers to visualize themselves being confident during labor, and to view themselves with positive affirmations that would give them the desired results.

What have you visualized during your pregnancy and birth?
