Healthy Mother announced the formation of the Healthy Mother Breastfeeding Support Network, a worldwide online and Hyderabad-based offline community of breastfeeding mothers, new and experienced, as well as other community members and activists interested in promoting breastfeeding.
Dr. Vijaya Krishnan, DPT, LCCE, FACCE, co-founder and Director of Healthy Mother Wellness & Care said on the occasion,
Unless there is a specific medical condition, every new mother is superbly capable of breastfeeding her baby. New mothers are routinely being told that they have no milk and that they should feed their babies formula food. There are other myths that new mothers have to battle with, whether from family or from those at workplace and social circles. The aim of the Healthy Mother Breastfeeding Support Network is to clear all these myths and provide evidence-based, proven information and knowledge to mothers.
Robin Hayter, who is leading this initiative said,
“We feel that breastfeeding offers a baby the best start in life, and many moms in our community do not have the proper resources to successfully breastfeed. We provide mothers with resources that help them gain the correct knowledge and support in order to breastfeeding their babies successfully. Our group also includes mentor moms, who have breastfed and can provide support and encouragement to the new moms.”
Members of the Healthy Mother Breastfeeding Network meet online on our own Facebook page which is here. The online forum is a place to ask questions, share experiences, and discuss breastfeeding related issues and gain the confidence to breastfeed successfully. Offline Group meetings will be held on regular occasions in Hyderabad to discuss breastfeeding issues. Meeetings will be informal, and cover variety of topics addressing new mothers and pregnant mothers.
